My sister is a writer. She has published her 3rd novel. I couldn’t put it down. It helps that she wrote an historical novel about one of our ancestors. It also helps that she writes with wit, cleverness, and great humanity. I loved it.
I love Lydia Gilbert. She is at once vibrant and quite reasonable, motherly and sensual, respectful of her church and ever-questioning God and man. She is a fully fleshed out character who is both heroic and quite pitiable. Through this wonderful character the author touches on questions of love, life, faith and man’s inhumanity to man. This is one of those rare books that I didn’t want to finish, because I didn’t want it to end.
